BRAUNTON BURROWS - Areas A,B,C & D
Area A
Area B
Area C
Area D
Braunton Burrows saw most activity as it was dotted with ranges and constructions for training the newly fomed "Assault sections".

Each range was specifically designed to teach Assault sections the individual tasks and tactics required from each element or sub-team.

Area "A" at the southern end of Braunton Burrows included Crow Point, a spit of sand forming a natural sheltered beach at Broadsands where all embarkation for training and rehearsals took place.
Area "B" included most of the mock-up landing craft where troops, vehicles and tanks endlessly practised speedy loading and debarkation. Many of the early, experimental pillboxes were also situated here.
Area "C" in the middle of the Burrows included the majority of constructions that were attacked by the Assault sections as well as the Mine and booby trap area and the Wirecutting range.
Area "D" at the very northern end of Braunton Burrows included the Flamethrower range, Infantryman's obstacle course and the Hedgehog. This was a concentrated area of pillboxes, wire and trenches used for a grand assault at end of the training period.
