Tactics and principles of assaulting a heavily defended enemy coastline had been proposed, discussed and refined at the month-long conference in London during May 1943. This had been translated into separate lesson plans for each element of the Infantry Assault Team. While the individual lessons may have been modified with experience, all maintained their adherence to the basic principle of "engineer-like" infantry dealing with enemy defences.
